When Lightly Blessed | Poem
Reflections on writing
Recently I’ve read several essays speaking to the importance of poetry in addressing issues of personal and cultural importance. Of course, I wholeheartedly agree with this, but those same essays declared, somewhat insistently, that poetry should not be light-hearted, and it should never break the fourth wall. They said it’s a rule or something equally silly. Here’s a poem I wrote that is not only is funny and self-referential, but it also pokes fun at the acclaimed literati in the process. I’m sure they’re up to some light ribbing.
