A brief introduction
Hello, I’m Tim, a retired software engineer and a writer here on Substack. I began writing poetry when I was young, and like many of you, never stopped.
I grew up in a house with few books. One of them, a Catholic school primer, saved me, not through its religious murmurings, but through its poetry. It was in those cramped and dusty pages that I found Ogden Nash, Phyllis McGinley and other masters of light verse quietly demonstrating the power humor plays in art. Later, I learned Vonnegut, Heller, Robbins and Kosinski, all masters of post-war fiction, could be equally biting with their wit. Somewhere between Alice and Wonderland and Slaughterhouse-Five, I found a quirky little corner to write myself into.
I’m posting some of my nonsense, in the form of poetry, flash fiction and short fiction, to my Substack publication, The Whimsical Wood. Please check it out and maybe subscribe or follow.
Thanks for reading The Whimsical Wood. Subscribe now so you never miss an issue. It’s free!

My publication if free for everyone. If you feel the urge to show your appreciation, please consider buying one of my poetry books—they’re hilarious and each one costs less than the price of croissant in Croatia.
Much of the content posted to my publication is also available on my website.
Cheers
